Fireplace without the Hassle: The Vidro Fireplace

Many people like having a fireplace, but dislike all the upkeep and nasty byproducts of having one. This new gadget delivers much of the atmosphere of having a fireplace minus all the negative points.

This glass and stainless steel crafted fireplace uses very similar technology to chaffing dishes (only increased by quite a bit) by burning gelled ethanol – which has the added advantage of producing no ash or soot, and it alos produces no smoke at all. But it produces the same colorful flames as a regular fireplace.

The Vidro (as its called) is perfect for apartments where you want to have the romantic ambience of a fireplace, but don’t want to sacrifice the room or pay a premium rent to have one. Not to say this is cheap; it starts around $1,000 or so, which is decidedly un-cheap.

The gadget should be released later next month, according to sources.
