It looks like the speaker for one of those antique record players, but its very modern in design. It also requires no batteries or power, which is very cool indeed.

The gadget uses (according to the makers) an entirely acoustic amplification system, using the all-metal “horn” to amplify it even further. The base is hand-carved walnut, using pieces of real antique furniture; a real cool item to display in any house.

The only downside: it’s pretty expensive, running $400 or so. If you have extra money, and have a use for it, it’s awesome indeed.

Conjures up slick products and high price tags. Brando – conjures up cool little USB merchandise with small price tags and interesting designs. When you combine the two concepts together? Meet: The USB Apple Speaker.

No, Apple had nothing to do with making the speakers; they’re shaped (vaguely) like apples, and they even have a keychain attached to make moving the speaker around a little easier. It features a rechargeable battery and easy 3.5mm headphone connectors and this also makes it usable with any MP3 player.

There are various color choices, including yellow, red, pink, green and black. You can get a bite of this apple for only $13 from USB Brando.

But traditional speakers are clumsy to fit into bags or suitcases, but these are designed for folding up and taking with you wherever you go: The Accordion Travel Speaker.

The white speakers are said to have powerful sound, and can stand up in any position needed. The hinges are strong and keep the speaker open, and it has several power options to keep it running longer at a clip: you can use USB power from a computer, or 3 AAA batteries; whatever works for your situation.

It includes 3 speakers and you can pick up this handy speaker setup for $14 from Urban Outfitters.

This gadget can make it a little more fun: The Wireless Waterproof Shower Speaker from Smartak Audio can introduce tuneage to your daily cleanup.

Using fancy sounding “900MHZ Phase Loop Lock” circuitry, the device can send an audio signal up to 150-feet to the unit (even through walls, according to the makers).

It is also compatible with any iPod, iPhone or your choice of MP3 unit (if it uses a 3.5mm output jack of course). The Wireless Waterproof Shower Speaker sells for $59.99 each, which is a pretty good deal for rockin’ with the Rolling Stones while showering.

How about a small profile speaker that can still thump the room when it needs to? Well, the iXtreme Amplified Speaker promises that sort of power and sound.

It claims to operate much the same way as a high-end subwoofer, with all kinds of patented internal stuff to really pump out the jams. Deep bass, and bright rich sound are promised to fill the room. It comes with a rechargable battery so you can let the party last most of the night, then charge it up and go again.

It runs for $29.95, which is really quite reasonable, assuming it works as advertised.
Jabra has recently released a new Bluetooth speakerphone, the Cruiser, that blocks out outside noise to increase conversation clarity (noise being a common issue with Bluetooth style headsets).

The device is made to be mounted on the visor of a car and supports Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and eSCO, so you can drive and talk at the same time, since many US states now have laws against driving with a phone to your ear, for very good reasons.

The Jabra Cruiser also features an FM transmitter allowing you to hook up a cell phone or MP3 player with music on it and listen to it with your Cruiser speaker.

This gadget provides 14-hours of talk time or up to 13-days of standby time, which is above average for this kind of device. If this sort of thing tickles your fancy, you can acquire the Jabra Cruiser for $159 each.

It’s a speaker system for the Apple iPod or iPhone that works as an iPod dock, speaker system and packs a little something extra too.

If you want to watch a movie on it, the Rotating Speaker System will turn the iPhone 90 degrees sideways so you can watch it properly in its aspect ratio. The company boasts full, rich sound and lighted controls, and it comes with inserts that allows it to fit any style of iPod or iPhone device, and works as a charging dock when turned off.

The Sharper Image Rotating Speaker System should be up for purchase on October 15, here for example, for $79.99, which isn’t a terrible price for something pretty slick and useful.

Well, your dreams have been answered with the JVC SP-A130.

The speakers “slide” open to reveal the output area, so they’re protected from any element, rain or damage this way. It’s a pretty neat design.

They’re decently powerful too; the output can be up to 160mWx2ch and they measure 30mm wide, which is pretty small and compact, so they can travel with you.

They will go for up to 16 hours of play with the 4 AA batteries it requires. There’s some color choices too, and these are available from Japan only for now. Retail is at 3000 Yen or about $33 starting mid October or so.
