For those that yearn for the good old days (but don’t want to give up modern conveniences) there’s these cool flash drives, shaped like those old time folders.

They’re actually designed to look like the little yellow folders on a typical Windows PC system, so the storage is literal, in a sense. Great for “style” points in the office too.

There’s even color choices for those who want a little more variety: the aforementioned gold/yellow color, blue and purple too. These drives were designed by gadgeteer Art Lebedev and come with 4GB of data storage.

These will run you $55 a piece, so they aren’t necessarily the cheapest solution around.

It’s supposed to be one of the fastest USB drives on the planet, and no price named yet, but expect it to not be cheap.

The drive is class all the way, with an all-aluminum outside shell and a clear plastic lid. The speed is where its at though: the Cool Drive U366 will boast a 5Gbps/sec maximum transfer rate, which is more than 10 times the maximum bandwidth potential of USB 2.0.

It also will claim a read speed of up to 97MB/sec, which is also mind-blowing. It’s tiny too, and will be sold in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB storage capacities. We can’t wait to see these hit shelves. More info here.

We love to cover unique USB drives sometimes, and this one is quite unique indeed.

The design looks very realistic, and thanks to the metal casing, the drive is heat, water and impact resistant, which can useful depending on where you plan to use these. It comes in a 2GB memory size, which is decent for most basic data storage needs.

You can get either gold or silver colors, and you acquire these for $19.99 each by going to China Grabber.

In this case, the design is very cool, and it includes 4GB of space and the Transformers 2 movie on it as well.

Its designed to be played on up to 5 different devices, or burned to a DVD at your convenience as well, and comes with a super slick case to round off the deal.

The drive still has 3 GB of space even with the movie on it (odds are you’ll burn it anyway, so no biggie). You can grab it for £17.99 or about $30 USD, and will start being sent out towards the end of the month.

This one combines a functional harmonica with a nice USB flash drive, so you can groove up some tunes and store all your data in one device. A traveling musician could probably make good use of this one.

The website states that its “long on soul, good looks and outdoorsy style”, and that’s definitely true. There are also Plug ‘n Play Combo models for purchase (in small quantities, as its an Etsy item), that ship with a 10-minute QuickTime video harmonica lesson to get you started playing the instrument out of the box.

Very interesting combo item, if a bit unusual. Models range from $45 to $55 depending on storage capacity.

Some are outrageous and silly, and some are just overpriced and not very useful.

The USB Men are plated in gold or silver forms, and they are bendable so you can set them on your desk, within easy reach if you should need them. They look slick and even a bit classy.

Now comes the tough part: The price. Each one of these is going to run you £55.00 or about $88 USD, and the other bad news: they come in only 1GB memory sizes, which is good if you have light data storage needs, but not for heavier storage, for certain.

For those of you who still want to get your hands on these, go to the Gift Library.

We like everything about it…except the price, which is a tad bit on the high side for what it is and what it does. But we love us some novelty flash drives, as long time readers know.

It holds 2GB of data, which these days isn’t that much really, but what you’re really paying for is the “cool factor”, which is quite valuable for most of the people that would consider buying it.

It retails for ¥ 11,500.00 or about $126 USD from Geek Stuff 4U, so be prepared to have your wallet assassinated, so to speak.

It looks pretty closely like a grenade (with a pin and everything), but the top pops off to reveal a USB connector for the drive. It definitely makes a statement, though it remains to be seen what that is exactly.

This drive comes in four colors: orange, white, blue and finally black (an orange grenade; might make a very different kind of statement).

The drive itself holds 4GB of your data, which isn’t bad considering its cool factor and its decent $20 price tag. If you’re looking for the latest in tough geek accessories, head on over to Gadget 4 All to grab yours.

Even geeks may get a charge out of the T600 Skull USB Drive, which resembles the “skull” of the cyborg in the films and is pretty cool to look at. This is one instance where the price may not match the cool factor of the gadget though.

For another thing, you’ll have to be very determined if you want to get your hands on these, since info and details are fairly sketchy at this point: no word on when it will become available or in what capacities.

The rather high price is known though: It’ll run you 15,000 Yen or about $160 USD. More details here.

The Pocket Safe USB Drive even can be set to “self-destruct” data if someone toys with it too much, trying to guess the code when they don’t know it. There’s a PIN changing service available as well.

It ain’t cheap, though…. £59.99 or $99 USD from Thumbs Up UK.
