Those people may find a very distinct use for this gadget, the Briefcase USB Turntable, the record player hidden in a briefcase. We’ve done audio converters before, but not quite this style.

The high-quality turntable will actually convert your vinyl into digital format. It’s a belt driven player that plays 7”, 10” and 12” records, so you’re set no matter what the type of record you need. It’s even vinyl-wrapped and includes USB connections and even built-in speakers too.

You can grab Briefcase USB Turntable for $69.99 from Think Geek.

It looks like the speaker for one of those antique record players, but its very modern in design. It also requires no batteries or power, which is very cool indeed.

The gadget uses (according to the makers) an entirely acoustic amplification system, using the all-metal “horn” to amplify it even further. The base is hand-carved walnut, using pieces of real antique furniture; a real cool item to display in any house.

The only downside: it’s pretty expensive, running $400 or so. If you have extra money, and have a use for it, it’s awesome indeed.

It’s quite different from the disco lights of yore, doing away with the bell bottoms and the “mirror ball” effect.

It helps you rock out to your favorite tunes while flashing some really cool lights around the room.

More about it here:

Specifically created to inject a bit of high-tech oomph into the whole lights-to-music genre, this powerful little projector uses superbright LEDs and sound-activation technology to beam colourful circles of light on to walls and ceilings. And unlike old-school contraptions it’s battery operated and supremely portable, so you can take it anywhere you fancy. Ideal for all you Guitar Hero/Rock Band obsessives, karaoke loons, Strictly fans and psychedelic inhabitants of the Planet Hendrix, the Gioteck features a glowing touch sensitive on/off button and fully adjustable flash sensitivity dial. This means you can crank up the response speed when you’re thrashing out the Ace of Spades and mellow things out when your chillin’ to I’m a Little Teapot.

Expect to pay £19.95 for the Gioteck Stage Light, which is fairly reasonable for this neo-retro toy.

Now that’s changed with the bright red Ion USB Portable Turntable.

It will work with a Mac or PC and all it needs is a USB connection to power up and work, so it saves electricity too. Vinyl has always been popular among the audiophiles, and with this new gadget, you can carry that joy easily with you anywhere you like.

Its small, measuring about 20” long by about 17 inches wide by about 6 inches high. It is not cheap though; you can grab it for $140 from Urban Outfitters.

It ain’t cheap or very modern, but there’s plenty of old-school geeks around who would get a kick out of it.

The clock is handmade, and contains a Doobie Brothers album, Minute by Minute. All it needs to run is a single AA battery, included in the package.

Its a decent size, being 17 inches wide and 14 inches tall and hangs from 2 hangers on the back of the gadget. Each one is made out of a real turntable, so each one will be somewhat unique, making this a great gift for the audiophile dork in your life.

You can grab your very own for $89 from vendor Pixelthis on Etsy.

It doesn’t need a computer of any kind to do so.

Just press play, and iConvert moves the feed onto the card. From there, you can transfer it to wherever you like, and its in digital format.

This is mainly aimed at people with lots of older format movies who don’t want to have to rebuy them on DVD or another digital format, but still want to clear out space that those tapes tend to take up.

It’s available at the Brookstone website for $99.95.

It’s not as “fancy” as all of the digital weather stations, but it certainly will look good sitting in your home. That may or may not be worth it to you.

This gadget reads barometric pressure and gives temperature and humidity readings in a rather old-fashioned way. It measures everything in Celsius, unfortunately, so someone in the US may not find this as useful.

It’s finished in shiny brass and the sphere itself is made of Plexiglas. As you may have guessed, this ain’t cheap. It runs at £109.95 or about $182 USD, but if you’re a weather buff and looking for something head turning for your house, this may be just the ticket.

Usually they aren’t cheap either though, and this is no exception. The Crosley Attic Speaker is a cross between a working radio and a speaker for your iPod/MP3 player.

It isn’t a dock though, so it won’t charge your iPod. It boasts pretty strong sound thanks to the technology of “AroundSound”, their own proprietary sound invention. It claims to eliminate “hot spots” in sound reproduction, which gives it a sharp, clear sound with nice acoustics.

You can grab the Crosley Attic Radio Speaker for $98 from Urban Outfitters.

The Vibralite 8 Vibrating Watch has a large display, 8 alarm settings and Auto Reset Countdown Timer option that gives extensive combinations of variable and interval reminders. Eight Alarm Settings for preset reminders. Auto Reset Option Countdown Timer may be set for seconds, minutes, and hours for interval reminders…Use for reminders such as medication, medical conditions, meetings, timing presentations, tests, parking, and appointments.

The retail price will be around $149.95, which is probably about what a nice cellphone that can do these things would cost, but then again, this one won’t require a monthly fee either, so…it’s up to the user, we suppose.

There are still plenty of old school game lovers that have an abiding love for Mario in all of its incarnations. For those type of people, the Shroom USB flash drive would be the perfect gift.

Its configured to look like the bricks and mushrooms from the video game series, and its slick and cool-looking for the retro fan out there. Big time geek appeal.

The only note: the drive is 4GB, which isn’t that much considering it sells on Etsy for $65. Then there is the Mario Brick USB Extension, the cables can extend anywhere from 1ft on up to 6ft, which adds $25 a piece on top of what the drive will cost you. That makes for a very uncheap flash drive indeed, mainly because these are made in pretty limited quantites.
