The 3D Interactive Smart Globe will help acquaint a child with the world around them in a pretty neat way, and is one of the cooler educational gadgets we’ve seen yet.

A snippet from the site:

Simply pick up the remote-control Smart Pen and get started – touching the control panel and any country will give you masses of useful info about whatever you touch. Currency, capital cities, national anthems, history, current leaders, in fact, anything you could conceivably want to know about world geography. There are around 30 other similar games to keep you on your toes, too. What’s more, the pull-out map of the UK reveals another surface the Smart Pen can tell you about in great detail.

This little wonder beats the pants off the typical textbook or encyclopedia; it self-updates once you register it, so it never becomes out of date. All you do is plug it into your USB port, and away you go with the most recent news and geography changes.

At only £99.99, this is probably one of the better purchases you’ll make for any child.

The Darth Vader Robotic Arm is actually a kit that instructs you in how to build a robotic arm and lets you do various stuff with it with fully interactive control over its movement.

The arm uses snap-together parts, so you don’t have to have a degree in engineering to put it together, and it fits well into any super-slick Star Wars room rather easily with its cool, creepy styling.

The price is £28.99 to acquire this for your very own and show off a piece of science fiction history.

The price may send a few parents into shock, but some girls will love it.

This is mainly for girls who are in transition: too old for Barbies, and too young for the whole makeup route, one of the most feared rites of passage for parents and their daughters. This gadget actually lets girls print designs right onto their nails safely and effectively. They can layout and design their own patterns.

The printing itself only takes a few seconds, for those impatient youth. Yes, its rather pricey, retailing for $264.99 on Amazon, but the young daughter in your life will have nails to die for.

It’s for the kid who dreams of being a CSI (and there are more of them, these days).

Here’s more about it from the site:

This All-in-One Inspection Set is designed for future detectives, as it highlights all the nifty aspects of it. For example, it has a 7 piece fingerprint kit that allows your kids to use lifting tape, glow in the dark powder, and an LED flashlight with UV Blacklight. This kit also has tiny ink case and a 2-sided fingerprint card for more fingerprint fun.The Evidence Kit also has an interesting 30X microscope that you can see standing on end in the photo. It can definitely introduce youngsters to the concept of the microscopic world. It also comes with 2 collection bags in case your kids are playing very realistic cops and robbers for “tag it and bag it” fun.

You can grab this great gift at the Shop Wild Planet website for about $22.95 (sale price for now).

Take aim with the included laser assault rifle and blast the zombies as they pop up from the windows of the dark mansion. Too slow and they dine on the human hostages inside. Remember, practice hard…not much time before the real hell spawn arrive to feast on flesh of the living. Powered by 9 AA batteries, the Zombie Shooting Gallery will come with an electronic and mechanical shooting gallery which lets you practice your undead killing skills by using the included assault rifle which shoots a laser that can be detected by the zombie targets. Should you miss, the zombie will devour a human hostage represented by a red silhouette in an upper window. As time progresses, zombies get faster and faster, so hold your nerve and make sure your high score on the LED display stays!

More here:

The six included games are interactive environments composed of pieces that include a base station, energy port, special effects hub, and three universal gaming pads; each accessory may be individually programmed using a simple, drag-and-drop interface with the included software (requires a PC running Windows XP or Vista). Depending upon the game you select (or modify using the software) each accessory serves a unique purpose: the base station can act as a depot, timer, or target; the energy port ejects a ball (which is corralled by the robot’s built-in scoop) and recharges the robot; and the special effects hub provides robots with advanced maneuvers and abilities. The robot has infrared sensors and radio frequency identification chips that allow the robot to react to the game’s accessories and other competing robots, helping it to avoid obstacles, navigate autonomously, and participate in any of the six included games. You can also participate in interactive online gaming using any of the robot’s programmed routines–you can identify other robots online as “friend” or “foe” and the robot will interact with them accordingly. The games involve the robot picking up different colors by driving over encoded pads and delivering them to the hub before time expires, collecting a ball while avoiding “bullets”, dropping electronic “land mines” to obstruct competing robots, and more. The robot’s dual monowheel design provides nimble 360º movement as it moves between accessories–you can control it from up to 30? away.

It also helps to own stock in batteries, and it takes a dozen AA batteries to get going. The Programmable Gaming Robot will set you back $299.95 as well, so having a thick wallet helps as well.

More here:

This keyboard mat allows budding virtuosos to compose their own music as they dance, jump, or run on the keys. Fourteen white and 10 black keys–almost two full octaves–produce individual tones or melodic harmonies. Nearly 6? long, the keyboard is large enough for duets, and musicians can record and instantly listen to their compositions or tap along with prerecorded songs. The mat replicates the sounds of eight instruments (piano, guitar, trumpet, saxophone, banjo, oboe, violin, and vibraphone).

It requires 4 AA batteries, its fun for kids (and parents) alike. And the $39.95 price tag is very reasonable as well.

More details here from the site:

Developed by a team of physicists, this is the globe that harnesses light and the earth’s magnetic pull to rotate continuously, without cords, batteries, or human intervention. Three photoreceptors inside the globe gather incandescent light or indirect sunlight to power an internal drive. This mechanism interacts with the earth’s magnetic field, providing the torque to spin the globe. The globe is suspended in a clear liquid inside a clear acrylic shell, creating a frictionless environment (much like the earth’s) that enables the globe to rotate steadily and silently at a gentle pace. The acrylic shell can spin 360º in any direction yet the globe itself will always remain upright and in proper alignment. The globe comes with an acrylic stand but it will rotate on most other surfaces, including your hand.

The globe is 8.5? in diameter, so it can be moved around, and displays 3,500 place names which include continents, countries, cities and all seven seas as well.

The Perpetually Rotating Solar Globe won’t be cheap, selling for around $399.95. No batteries needed though.
