Big media, small package: The Cowon D2 Media Player

Sometimes media players are a little on the large side, especially if they play video and do other useful things. This new media player changes this fact and establishes a new benchmark for a small media player and what it can do.

The Cowon D2 features a 16 million color LCD touch-screen and stylus, making it quick and simple to navigate around the interface. It isn’t greedy with battery power either, as a single two hour charge can give you 50+ hours of music playback or 10 hours of video playback.

It comes with 4GB of memory included, and is upgradable via SD memory cards.

Other cool features: a 5 band equalizer, a bass booster, and even a MP booster to enhance the sound of typical MP3 music (MP3 tracks typically lose some of the clarity of the original music). It even comes with a TV output that can be plugged into your regular TV.

Definitely a player to look out for. Price is £149.00 (about $200 or so USD) and is available here.

High-tech on a budget: The 8GB Memorex TouchMP Touchscreen Media Player

Yes, budgets are tight, especially for gadgets these days. Memorex seems to have the consumer’s back with their newest release, the TouchMP, announced at CES 2009. It brings a touchscreen MP3 player to the masses at a pretty cool price.

Memorex’s new TouchMP model provides a portable media player for just $99.99, with a full boat of cool features, modern interface and lots of song capacity for most people. The 8GB PMP supports MP3, WMA and WAV audio playback (along with a variety of more obscure formats), FM radio, voice recorder, can display images and videos, and has a 2.8-inch QVGA display. Shipping in March, this device also has a microSD card slot for expansion if your demands are really huge.

The model is scheduled to ship out to stores and be available in mid-March or so.

The iRiver Spinn PMP first debuted at CES 2008 and many loved its unique curves and design (and large screen), and now it’s finally available for purchase in the US. The 3.3-inch touchscreen MP4 player with full Bluetooth 2.0 support and “dial” UI navigation has an impressive roster of things it can handle: Video, music, FM radio, picture viewer, and voice recording among them.
